PPI (Precision Pulley & Idler) is now a Vayeron Global Premium Partner, with PPI describing Vayeron as rapidly growing the global distribution of the Smart-Idler product line. Through the partnership, customers in the U.S., Canada and Latin American countries will have access to PPI conveyor components powered by Vayeron Smart-Idler technology. According to PPI, idlers represent a significant maintenance challenge for most bulk materials handling conveyor systems, as the large quantity of idlers contained within a system means inspection and replacement routines are reliant on a reactive maintenance program. End users regularly experience significant operational losses and flow-on damage to their conveyor belts due to unmitigated conveyor roller failure, PPI adds.

Retrac reaming bit for face drilling operations

Rockmore International’s new retrac reaming bit is designed with unique retrac-style cutting fins in the rear section to promote better retraction out of the hole, according to the company. The fins effectively force out any rock chips from behind the bit when the drill string is pulled from the blasthole, resulting in more efficient reaming operations, Rockmore says. rockmore-intl.com

Modular conveyors for longer, wider applications

The EXT Series expands the range of Superior Industries’ modular conveyor product line into longer and wider material handling applications. According to Superior, its Zipline conveyors target bulk producers looking for overland conveyors requiring little or no pre-engineering for express deliveries. With the addition of the EXT Series, Superior’s Zipline conveyors are now available in lengths up to 2,500 ft. and belt widths up to 48 in. Between the head and tail are a series of 40-ft. intermediate sections designed with an 8-in. channel and 2-ft.-tall support stands. Standard Zipline conveyor models are equipped with mechanical take-ups for shorter distances, Superior says, but the EXT Series includes a gravity take-up tower to accommodate longer-distance overland conveying.

Uplink data to unlimited remote sites

The HawkEye365 online inventory asset and monitoring portal is a complete remote and in-plant measurement system. According to Hawk Measurement Systems, the system is different due to the communications capabilities and compatibility with Power over Ethernet (PoE) level sensors. The advantages of PoE connectivity are secure in-plant and remote monitoring, as well as remote sensor setup, diagnostics and troubleshooting abilities, Hawk says. The HawkEye365 portal not only monitors PoE transmitters but is sensor agnostic and can monitor any type of field device such as level, flow, pressure, temperature and pH.

Hydrocyclone introduces step change in performance, sustainability

The Cavex 2 marks what Weir Minerals is calling a new generation of hydrocyclones. According to Weir, its Cavex 1 design set an industry benchmark more than two decades ago with its 360-degree laminar spiral inlet geometry, which significantly reduced turbulence. Following years of research, development and trials, Weir improved upon the design with the creation of the LIG+ inlet and chamber design. The LIG+ design enables Cavex 2 hydrocyclones to classify up to 30 percent more feed slurry, Weir says, while occupying the same footprint as other hydrocyclones. Also, the new design took into consideration the shape and angle of the hydrocyclone to ensure particles report to the correct stream.

Latest hydraulic excavators enhance key efficiencies

Caterpillar launched a pair of next-generation hydraulic excavators designed to increase efficiencies and lower operating costs. The 349 and 352 excavators are the new models, with Cat making the case that the excavators each offer 45 percent more operating efficiency. According to Cat, the 349 and 352 offer up to 10 percent more fuel efficiency and up to 15 percent less maintenance costs compared to the models they replace: the 349F and 352F. The two feature Cat Grade with 2D, a system giving operators visual guidance to grade via the standard touchscreen monitor so they can make more accurate cuts. The system is readily upgradable to Cat Grade with Advanced 2D or Cat Grade with 3D for enhanced accuracy, the company adds.

Prototype system to come for underground automation

Orica and Epiroc plan to unveil a new explosives delivery system that will deliver a new way of approaching blasting operations – eliminating charge crew exposure at the face. According to the companies, their Avatel solution will provide safe access for operators in a cab to execute the development cycle while reducing the reliance on controls put in place to manage the risks to personnel working in an underground mine. Built on the foundation of Epiroc’s Boomer M2 carrier and integrated with Orica’s latest explosives technology, Avatel is a twin boom, semi-autonomous and fully mechanized development charging solution that allows a single operator to complete the entire charging cycle from the safety of Epiroc’s enclosed ROPS- and FOPS-certified cabin.

Borehole deviation measurement tools succeed legacy systems

The Boretrak2 is a simple-to-use, gyro-based system for measuring the deviation of boreholes drilled in underground mines, surface operations, and open-pit mines and quarries, Carlson Software says. The software was developed as a successor to the Rodded and Cabled Boretrak systems. According to Carlson Software, the new unit features capabilities of both units and includes a miniature inertial measurement unit containing a triaxial accelerometer, magnetometer and gyro. Prior to deployment, the Boretrak2 is calibrated against a known orientation on a supplied mount, establishing a starting reference azimuth for the gyro. The gyro provides the Boretrak2 with an accurate, live heading that’s tracked as the probe is deployed into the borehole. It is not reliant on a magnetic compass or physical rod alignment for orientation, the company says.
